Be Part of the Rap Industry and Hip Hop Royalty!

There’s no debating that rap and hip-hop is the biggest genre in the world right now. Every year, hip-hop takes over a larger share of the market. There’s never been a better time to get into the business of rapping if you have an interest. Things are certainly not slowing down.

But the rap world is also quite competitive. If you’re hoping to make it in the business, you really need to know what you’re getting into and how to stand out. There’s a difference between pursuing rap as a hobby and pursuing it as a career.

If you’re considering attempting to break into the rap industry, read on. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

Listen To All Kinds Of Music

If you’re looking to become a rapper, it’s assumed you’re probably already listening to some rap music. You probably have your influences and idols. But if you really want to make it in this business, it’s essential that you expand your horizons.

The more you listen to, the more you’ll learn about making music. There is an endless amount of creativity on display across so many different genres. You never know what is going to inspire you or give you an amazing idea.

Challenge yourself by listening to things you normally wouldn’t, within and outside of the genre itself. Kanye, for example, finds inspiration in all sorts of different kinds of music. The more you know and experience, the better of an artist you yourself can be.

Who Are You?

Once you feel ready to launch into your career, you’ll need an identity to get yourself behind. You’re probably thinking: ‘what do I need an identity for? Can’t I be myself?’

Yes and no. A huge part of the way people understand and interact with music is by getting to know the artist themselves. If you want to succeed, you should find ways to make it easier for the audience to get to know you.

This doesn’t mean creating a fake identity for yourself (though you definitely can if you want to). It just might be mean focusing on and emphasizing certain aspects of yourself. Take a look at the lyrics you’ve been writing. Is there anything that you seem to focus on specifically? This might be key to understand what kind of art and image you’re putting out into the world.

Most rappers don’t perform under their given name. A stage name can help convey the image you’re trying to sell. Be careful in selecting a stage name, as its a moniker that might follow you for years and years to come.

Practice Makes Perfect

The next thing you’ll need to do to become a rapper is rap. It’s really as simple as that. But it’s something you’ll need to do a lot. Only with hours and hours of writing and performing raps can you hope to achieve a level of talent that will bring you success.

The best way to get good at rapping is simply to do it. It doesn’t require much. Many rappers enjoy designing their own beats, but it might be better to start out using someone else’s.

There are so many beats online that you can download and use to practice your writing and performing skills. Once you download a beat, get in the flow and get working. If you can try to create a song a day, you’ll be headed towards success in no time.

Having the same kind of work ethic when it comes to shows can be important too. The more you perform in front of people, the more comfortable you’ll be able to get. You might learn what gets a crowd excited and what bores them instead. Playing live is also an amazing way to meet other people in the business.

The more shows you play, the more people you’ll meet. Eventually, you might meet and get to know people that can help your career move ahead. The more important thing at these shows though is that you focus on getting better.

The better and more comfortable you get at performing, the higher your chances of success will be.

Embrace The Social Media World

As you continue to get more comfortable, you’ll want to get the word out about yourself. The best way to do that in the modern era is to make sure you have a presence on at least one or two major social media websites.

These social media accounts can be a great place to promote your shows and music. It also allows new fans to get to know you in a more intimate way. The more you can stick out in a listener’s head, the more likely they’ll return to hear more of your music.

You should ensure that the content you’re posting on your social media feeds feels in line with the image of yourself you’re trying to put forth. If your rap persona invokes you being the toughest guy on the block, then try to keep what you post on social media centered around that idea.

No matter what you do, make sure you have a presence online. It’s the best way to get your music out to new fans.
